Join the Compost Club: Community-Powered Soil Building

Pickled Compost presents...

Compost Club!

Following the success of the Carb Club—where locals came together to grow, harvest, and share staple crops—the next step in closing the loop on our local food system is building healthy soil. That’s where the Compost Club comes in!

Every month from May 2025 - October 2025, we’ll gather to turn food scraps, garden waste, and brown materials into nutrient-rich compost. Whether you’re an experienced composter or just curious to learn, this is a hands-on, community-driven way to divert waste, reduce emissions, and nourish the land.

When & Where?

Monthly sessions, starting Sunday, 11th May 2025 (Mother’s Day) | 10 AM – 12 PM
📍 Ruamahanga Farm, 1415 State Highway 53, Martinborough (potential for rotating sites)

Mother’s Day feels like the perfect time to kick things off—honouring Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) by giving back to the soil. It also happens to be International Compost Awareness Week!

JUNE: Sunday, 8th June 2025 10 AM – 12 PM | Ruamahanga Farm

JULY: Sunday, 13th July 2025 10 AM – 12 PM | Ruamahanga Farm

AUGUST: Sunday, 10th August 2025 10 AM – 12 PM | Location TBC

SEPTEMBER: Sunday, 14th September 2025 10 AM – 12 PM | Location TBC

OCTOBER: Sunday, 12th October 2025 10 AM – 12 PM | Location TBC

How It Works

Bring your scraps – food waste, brown materials, and garden trimmings (just no noxious weeds please!)
Learn and share – hands-on composting and Bokashi fermentation techniques
Help build compost piles – creating rich, living soil for future food growing

Why Join?

  • Close the food loop – turn waste into a valuable resource
  • Reduce landfill waste & methane emissions – food waste in landfill creates harmful greenhouse gases
  • Support local food resilience – healthy soil grows nutrient-rich food
  • Build connections – meet like-minded people who care about sustainability
  • Whānau / Family friendly - we encourage all people of ages to join in the fun!
  • It's FREE - bring along your compost inputs, some kai for a shared local potluck afterwards.

We’re limiting each session to 20 participants so we can keep things hands-on and manageable.
👉 Please register your interest by emailing Lydia at info@pickledcompost.com to secure your spot.

Let's make composting easier and fun by doing it together!
